Our walking tours are based out of Russell in the Bay of Islands, and there is a wonderful mix of fine cuisine, vineyards, walking and exploring.  

We take you to some of the best walking spots in the Bay of Islands, and many that are hard to access normally or not open to the public regularly.  Incredible bird life in these pest free pristine spots, and you could spot a kiwi in the evening!

This 3 night/2 day tour is all inclusive – so you just need to book!

We will be running a walking tour once a month throughout the year – please enquire here with your preferred date.

If you are a group – and would like a tour – we would love to help you!

  • 3 nights quality accommodation – twin/double share. Single supplement available.
  • Meals – Breakfast, lunch, dinner. From dinner on your first night to breakfast on day four.

Day 1 – Arrive in Russell

Check into your accommodation in the beautiful village of Russell from 2pm.  Meet up with your Tour Leader who will give you a rundown on the next few days.

Dine in the Duke of Marlborough, with a special menu for you as Northland Experiences customers, and a lovely waterfront table to watch the sunset as you enjoy the hospitality.

For those who would like to there is a short evening adventure to spot a kiwi.  There has been a high success rate for seeing the kiwi in its natural habitat, but not guaranteed.  This entails a short 5-minute ride in the van and a short walk.

Day 2 – The Landing Vineyard, Rangihoua Heritage Park and Marsden Cross

From Russell it’s a boat trip across the Bay to Marsden Cross, and the exclusive Landing Vineyard.  Walk through this stunning property with its network of boardwalks and walking trails leading through native bush reserves and wetlands taking in magnificent rural and sea views and many sites of historical interest.

Be guided through the unique and complex characteristics of The Landing wines and enjoy a delicious two-course shared lunch at the Tasting Room prepared by The Landing’s Chef using the best seasonal produce from their gardens and the Northland region. 

Dinner that evening is at Hōnes Garden.  Experience their relaxed atmosphere and exceptional manaakitanga/ hospitality.

Day 3 – Island hopping and Paroa Bay Vineyard

Board a boat chartered for your group for the day and venture into the heart of the Bay of Islands visiting 3 of the most stunning islands –  Motuarohia (Roberton), Moturua and Urupukapuka Islands. 

Cruise among the 144 islands, keep an eye out for marine life and NZ native birdlife and an ear attentive to catch the informative commentary and history.

Walk on all 3 of the islands, enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach, and a swim in the pristine waters.

In the evening its wine tasting at Paroa Bay Vineyard and  dining at their highly acclaimed Sage Restaurant.  The restaurant is perched high above the idyllic Bay of Islands, it is the Moana (ocean) and Whenua (land) that inspire their menu.

Day 4 

Final breakfast in Russell.  We can help you plan the rest of your trip, whether it be more walking or something different – cycling, golf, arts and crafts and more.
