Itinerary

Day One

Arrive to the Bay of Islands, and to the beautiful village of Russell.  You can check into your accommodation from 2pm.

The group will meet with you in the Duke of Marlborough Bar, and our local Tour Leader William will join you to give you a rundown on the next few days.

Your evening meal that night is in the restaurant at the Duke , with a special menu for you as Northland Experiences customers and a lovely waterfront table to watch the sun set as you enjoy the hospitality.

For those that want to you can head out for a short evening adventure to spot kiwi.  There has been a high success rate for seeing the kiwi in its natural habitat, but not guaranteed.  Just a short 5 minute ride in the van and a short walk.

Day two

Starting the day with a buffet breakfast in the dining room
of The Duke.  Watch Russell wake up whilst enjoying your breakfast, the ferries, tour boats and fisherman hustle back and forth on the wharf

Today you will be heading off to The Landing, Rangihoua
Heritage Park and Marsden Cross.

The Landing is a stunning property with a network of
boardwalks and walking trails leading through native bush reserves, wetland, areas and farm paddocks. The historic Missionary Track connects to the adjacent Rangihoua Heritage Park and Marsden Cross. This network makes for an excellent way to explore the property, taking in magnificent rural and sea views and many sites of historical interest.

The Landing Wines are known for their beautifully crafted tropical fruit and mineral flavours, given depth and complexity by Northland’s long, warm summers and coastal aspect. From vine to bottle, every step of the wine-making process takes place on site, starting in our 23-acre vineyard and finishing at our state-of-the-art winery.

Pick up is on The Landings launch which will take you across the Bay to Marsden Cross.  Enjoy the guided tour on this exclusive property its significant historic sites and vineyard.

Midday – Be guided through the unique and complex characteristics of The Landing wines and enjoy a delicous two course shared lunch at the Tasting Room prepared by The Landing’s Chef using the Best seasonal produce from their gardens and the Northland region. Plenty of time to enjoy this idyllic spot, relax with a glass of wine, walk a bit more through the Landing trails and up to the lookout.  Their boat will depart at 3.45pm.

This gives you a few hours to enjoy Russell, there is plenty to do here, and William can give you a good run down.

Dinner that evening is 7.30pm Northland’s top hospitality business for 2020 – Hōnes Garden.  Experience their relaxed atmosphere and exceptional manaakitanga/ hospitality.

Day three

Following breakfast, you head off to the wharf again to catch another boat chartered for your group for the day.   The Island Explorer – this will take you into the heart of the Bay of Islands where you visit 3 of the most stunning islands.  Motuarohia (Roberton), Moturua and Urupukapuka Islands.

Cruise among the 144 islands, keep an eye out for marine life and NZ native birdlife and an ear on for the informative commentary and history.

Enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach, water is definitely warm enough to swim in as well.  After the final island stop sit back and relax with a cold beverage on the journey back into  Russell!

Tonight you get to experience the wonderful Paroa Bay Vineyard and  dine at their highly acclaimed Sage Restaurant.

The restaurant is perched high above the idyllic Bay of Islands, it is the Moana (ocean) and Whenua (land) that inspire their menu. From the end of the fishing line cast into the sea to the orchard doors of their suppliers and their very own onsite gardens, their focus is on locally grown and sourced ingredients which combine seamlessly into a uniquely creative brand of New Zealand cuisine.

The boutique vineyard has 16,000 vines, and focus on a handful of varietals — Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec — their ethos dictates low-yield and high-quality vintages that are sensual representations of our physical environment.

Enjoy a wonderful Sage dining experience, and for those that want there is wine tasting.
