Its hard to beat the view of the world you get from a bicycle seat. With cycle trails like this one allowing riders access to parts of the country we’d never see any other way. Arriving in picturesque Horeke, I promised myself I’d return again and again because this route is full of surprises and you feel you have really been on an adventure. My favourite quote from the interpretation panels said “There are times when we become breathless and other moments that take our breath away”. And the Twin Coast Cycle Trail does both.

My wife Sally and I did the A2O cycle trail last year, 2017, with Steve Brodie as our guide. We had a wonderful week, not least because Steve was a fantastic guide/ organiser on the trip. It was obvious he had a vast amount of experience of the outdoors as well as great ‘peoples’ skills.

We decided to use electric bikes for the first time, and received great instruction, making us confident riders. Steve is always cheerful and has a great sense of humour- essential when the going gets rough, but also great fun on and off the trail.

We felt confident in his advice regarding safety on the track, and that he would be where he said he would be to pick us up. He has excellent problem solving skills, which are essential on these kinds of trips, which so often are affected by the weather.

We could not fault him as a guide, and would recommend him for any similar trip.

It’s not really about the biking. The Twin Coast is at the historical heart of Aotearoa New Zealand. The trail is just a great way to experience a range of physical and cultural landscapes that will stay with you long after you’ve finished the ride.

Way to Go! The fully serviced tour was fabulous. We just turned up: got on hired bikes, left our luggage in Steve’s care and rode off and enjoyed ourselves. Accommodation and meals were great - all included in the price. Definitely the way to go if you want to spoil yourselves. Thanks to Steve for helping make it so much fun. A memorable experience!
